I was recently digging through some old boxes in the attic and stumbled upon a treasure: my mom’s recipe card for “Fudge Krispies.” The faded card, with its handwritten instructions and smudges of chocolate (or maybe it’s just age!), brought back a flood of childhood memories.
Mom’s kitchen was always the heart of our family gatherings. The aroma of freshly baked cookies, her signature pot roast, and these amazing fudge krispie treats filled the air with warmth and love. And now, thanks to this rediscovered recipe, I can share a piece of that with you.
Ingredients:
- 1 – 11.5 oz package (2 cups) Nestle Milk Chocolate Morsels
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
- 4 cups Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal
Instructions:
- Combine Nestle Morsels, margarine, and corn syrup in a medium-size saucepan.
- Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the morsels are melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
- Gradually add the confectioners’ sugar, mixing well.
- Add the Rice Krispies cereal, stirring until well coated.
- Spread evenly in a greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan.
- Chill until firm.
- Cut into 1 1/2 inch squares.
A Few Notes from Mom’s Kitchen:
- Mom always insisted on sifting the confectioners’ sugar to avoid any lumps.
- She also preferred using margarine over butter for this recipe, claiming it gave the treats a softer texture.
- And don’t forget to grease the pan! No one wants their krispie treats to stick.
- Store in fridge. (This is a great tip for keeping them fresh!)
This recipe is a simple, classic treat that’s perfect for any occasion. Whether you’re packing a lunchbox, bringing a dish to a potluck, or just craving a sweet snack, Mom’s Fudge Krispies are sure to hit the spot.
So go ahead, give them a try! And as you savor each bite, remember the magic of family recipes and the love they represent.
